Mechanical Engineering
is nurturing global talents and leading the development of future technologies Hanyang University’s Division of Mechanical Engineering was established in 1948 as the Department of Mechanical Engineering, producing its first graduating class in 1952. The department was followed by the Department of Prevision Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Design, and the Department of Automobile Engineering, all of which it later merged with to form the Division of Mechanical Engineering. As of 2010, our division has produced more than 10,000 graduates in total.
As has been widely recognized, the alumni of our division are actively working in diverse fields, not just in industrial sectors, but also in government agencies, publicly funded organizations, and academic institutions. In particular, they have played a critical role in the industrialization and advancement of this country.

‘Nurturing well-prepared engineering talents based on the founding principle, “Love in Deed” Based on the founding principle of Hanyang University, “Love in Deed,” the Division of Mechanical Engineering has been committed to nurturing well-prepared engineering talents who have professional knowledge in mechanical engineering with creativity and global outlook and who can contribute to the nation and society. To this end, various programs have been operated such as an engineering accreditation program, called ABEEK, and the University-wide “Best Teacher” program that awards prizes to selected faculty members who achieve the highest course evaluation ratings. Under the Best Teacher program, our division has been producing the largest number of Best Teachers among other divisions in Hanyang University.

Selected for government-funded talent nurturing programs, and research projects funded by the government and the private sector Creating “intellectual properties” such as papers and patents Our faculty members and graduate students have been selected for government-funded talent nurturing programs such as the BK Program, and other research projects funded by the government and private sector to strengthen the technological competitiveness of our country and businesses. Through these programs and projects, our division has created many intellectual properties such as papers and patents, and most of all, has nurtured the outstanding professional researchers who will lead the future of our country, which is highly meaningful. The Division of Mechanical Engineering will continue to strengthen its role as an academic institution that generates and delivers knowledge for the present and future of our country and society.
